It was our 5th trip to Ukraine. But this time, we traveled with legendary singer/ social activist Joan Baez. This was no coincidence. Fast forward to our most recent trip to a country at war, where there is fierce combat in the east and, for the most part, in western Ukraine, people living in some of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
China’s decision to grow its nuclear weapons arsenal to be on a par with or potentially more advanced than that of the U.S. could not be worse news. I fear that the danger of an intentional or inadvertent launch of global nuclear war will soon be greater than it was when the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 put us on the brink of a nuclear apocalypse.
Children are in trouble, and they need our help now. The Russian ground invasion and incessant artillery shelling have already caused the largest forced migration of civilians in Europe since the second WW II. No matter what other critical issues are demanding our attention, we must not forget how much Putin’s brutal war on Russian expansionism is harming Ukraine’s children and – the very future of Ukraine itself.
Ukraine's children are in trouble—and it's much more than their lives being at risk; it's the future of Ukraine itself. Children have been severely impacted by this unprovoked war. Hundreds of children have died in eastern or southern Ukraine since Feb. 24, and hundreds more have been injured – some severely.
America needs every child — regardless of socioeconomic status —to be a success story. Period.
